A Lament for 2025
God how much longer will this injustice last
When will justice be visited on the power hungry
Will you not convict the cruel and heartless?
Will you not stop those who crush the lives and hearts of the innocent?
Will this darkness last forever right in front of you?
We trust you but we have to say it over and over in case we be overcome with despair
I know your love abounds as it worms into the cracks of this dam of darkness
I can see you in your brokenhearted and provoked people.
I know you hold me when I shake with rage and feel despair. Don’t let go.
Energize your people to enact the justice and mercy you call us to
Hold back the dark tides of dehumanizing rhetoric.
Subdue the intentions that no longer skulk behind foggy words but brazenly trample on norms and principles,
Build a sturdy hedge of love and light around those who are vulnerable.
May your light expose dark and dank actions that find power in the gloom of their own making
May your light illuminate my own dark demeanor, my own unfaithfulness.
Your Light brings joy and peace, mercy and healing. May we learn to bask in it and feel your love surround our broken hearts. May we rest in your unchanging, healing, presence. You are our God. The only one who can save us.
