Doing – Becoming – Being

Doing – Becoming – Being

It’s hard to believe that we’re already almost two months into our time together in this cohort. The realization of this heightens my desire to make the most of this opportunity.

As I reflect on our time together so far, I recognize that what is deepening within me is my desire to become the truest, most faithful form of myself, for the sake of all of the people in my life. And my understanding of what this actually means and looks like is expanding. I am discovering that a large part of the becoming is in the doing. So often, I’m waiting for some recognizable, tangible milestone in my formation before I feel ready to step out and take action. I know there are times when I have used this as an excuse to not act. Over the past month or so I have heard the Spirit telling me that I can’t wait any longer to “be ready.” The world needs me to act now. In turn, boldly taking action when the opportunity arises will facilitate my own formation.

I think of these words from Richard Rohr … “We do not think ourselves into new ways of living. We live ourselves into new ways of thinking. In other words, our journeys around and through our realities, or “circumferences,” lead us to the core reality, where we meet both our truest self and our truest God.”

  1. Steve – this: what is deepening within me is my desire to become the truest, most faithful form of myself, for the sake of all of the people in my life.
This is truly noble and honorable and I believe it is so pleasing to God. It brings to my mind Romans 12:1-2, being willing to let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think and being a living and holy sacrifice which is truly the way to worship God.

  2. Steve – I appreciate and resonate with what you said about not waiting any longer to “be ready”. What a powerful reminder to move forward in faith even though we may not feel completely prepared. It reminds me of that famous quote I have heard “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.”
