WHOA!! I just finished reading Riley’s post about her “bird sign” (if you haven’t read it yet – DO!) A bird smashed into the window as she was on the phone receiving some bad news….surely it was a sign reminding her of her BELOVEDNESS….it is so fascinating to me how Spirit calls this reality to mind in myriad ways every day. It is truly astounding. I was also moved by Riley’s insight about white privilege – how we are often so confident that our needs will be met….that GOD will take care of us.
I am mulling over our “prompts” for the past week and one of them is stirring within me…“how has our work together invited shirts, experiments, and/or ideas in the way you approach your leadership”…..I am just about to leave on yet another Civil Rights trip with a group of good Lutherans. Every trip is unique with so many insights and learnings….however, each group ALSO needs time to process what they are taking in – the more expansive understanding of the horrors of this nation’s history of slavery, and oppression and how it is still continuing….I am giving some deep thought to how I might experiment with some questions – pushing participants toward some forward thinking insights and actions. I want to attend to their inner pain more quickly so they don’t “stew” in it. I really want to help them let go of their white guilt and channel the learning into positive directions. If any of you brilliant colleagues have ideas for me, I welcome them.
The Global Immersion text (Mending the Divides) is really helping me with this SEE/IMMERSE/CONTEND….there is something in this for me to add in to the trip process….to be continued…..
